Support Details

Company B, a consultancy firm providing business support connecting Asia and Japan, was considering establishing a base in Okinawa. Within the Asia Business Network initiative, we provided consultation from the initial stages, offering information on Okinawa’s business environment, location characteristics, and key points for business development. Furthermore, we supported the company with the fundamental procedures required for establishing a base in Okinawa and coordination with relevant organisations, thereby alleviating uncertainties regarding systems and practical matters that can be difficult for overseas companies to understand. Concurrently, we assisted in creating connections with business networks in Okinawa, preparing the groundwork for post-establishment business expansion.

Overview

The Asia Business Network initiative provides practical support for location selection and facilitates networking to enable overseas companies to establish bases in Okinawa and develop businesses leveraging regional characteristics. In this case study, we supported Company M (a meat processing enterprise), which had been operating meat processing and distribution businesses from overseas bases, from the stage of considering expansion into Japan and Okinawa through to the establishment of its base location.

Support Details

Company M was considering Okinawa as a new business base with a view to processing and exporting Japanese meat products. Within the Asia Business Network initiative, we provided information from the initial consultation stage regarding Okinawa’s locational characteristics, its geographical advantage for accessing Asian markets, and its international logistics environment. Concurrently, we clarified the relevant systems and basic procedures required for meat processing operations, thereby alleviating concerns for overseas companies regarding Japan’s complex regulatory and operational frameworks. Furthermore, we facilitated coordination with relevant authorities to support the arrangements for commencing operations in Okinawa. We also provided information on potential sites for establishing a processing facility and offered support for building smooth relationships with the local community. Consequently, Company M was able to advance concrete preparations for establishing its meat processing operations in Okinawa.

Outcomes of the support

Through this support, Company M established its base in Okinawa, creating a business foundation as a processing and export hub for Japanese meat products. Logistics and Consulting Company (J Company)

Overview

The Asia Business Network initiative supports overseas companies in establishing bases in Okinawa and developing their businesses while leveraging regional characteristics. This case study introduces the support received by Company J, which has been providing logistics and business support primarily in Chinese-speaking regions from its overseas base, during the process of establishing its Okinawa base.

Support Details

Company J was considering establishing a base to leverage Okinawa as a business gateway to Asia and strengthen its role as a bridge between overseas and Okinawan companies. Through the Asia Business Network initiative, we provided information from the outset regarding Okinawa’s business environment, locational characteristics, and advantages in international logistics. We also carefully explained Okinawa’s geographical advantages and excellent access to Asian markets, helping J Company understand the appeal of establishing a base there. Furthermore, we advised on the necessary procedures for incorporating a company in Okinawa and coordinating with relevant authorities, thereby alleviating the concerns foreign companies often face regarding institutional and administrative compliance. As part of our support, we collaborated with the Okinawa Industrial Promotion Corporation and financial institutions to provide practical assistance, enabling Company J to advance its base establishment preparations smoothly. We also facilitated connections with relevant parties and specialists within Okinawa to build a logistics and business support network there, helping create an environment where local needs could be matched with the expertise of overseas companies. This progress prepared Company J’s Okinawa base to fulfil its role in connecting business both within and beyond the region.

Outcomes of the support

Through these support measures, Company J is advancing its base establishment in Okinawa and making concrete preparations to form a logistics and consulting hub connecting Japan and the Asian region.
